Less than 2 months is left until the beginning of the largest event in chess – Chess Olympiad is the most prestigious tournament in this sport, and it is a big honour for any country to host it. This year the 43rd Olympiad will take place in Batumi, Georgia.

Our country received the right to conduct this tournament in 2014, at the FIDE General Assembly conducted in the Norwegian city of Tromso, where it received 93 votes from the delegates and surpassed its immediate competitor, the South African city of Durban, by 35 votes.

The tournament will take place from September 23 to October 6 in Batumi, with up to 4,000 chess players and officials from over 180 countries.

One of the host companies of this important competition is Winery Khareba. As they told Travelingeorgia, hosting the 43rd Chess Olympiad is a big honour for them; such a large-scale tournament will give them the possibility to introduce Georgian wine to more people.

“43rd World Chess Olympiad is conducted in Georgia, and it is very important for the country. Chess is an intellectual sport, we have many successful chess players in Georgia, and it is necessary to develop and popularize this sport even more.”

“Wine is our country’s business card, that’s why the Chess Olympiad will give us the possibility to introduce Georgian wine to even more people”, say the company representatives.

In the sphere of promoting chess development, Winery Khareba is not only engaged in the Olympiad, it has participated in other activities related to this sport.

For example, on July 31an event called “One Day in the World of Chess” was organized by the Organizational Committee of the Chess Olympiad and Chess Federation of Georgia and conducted with the support of Winery Khareba.

The event was a synthesis of chess and wine, which proved to be very interesting both for the participants and attending audience. A game between Nona Gaprindashvili and Zurab Azmaiparashvili conducted with wine glasses drew a lot of attention.

Popularity of chess in the company is once again proven by the fact that the winner of the first Corporate Championship of Georgia conducted on June 23-24 was Winery Khareba.

The competition consisted of 9 tours, with 22 participating teams. The tournament was conducted according to the Swiss system, each team consisted of 4 players. Winery Khareba won 3 tours out of 4 and played one in a tie on the first day. On the second day they won 4 out of 5 games and finished one in a tie. Thus the team won the prize fund and the right to participate in the European Corporate Championship in Paris.
