First Train Arrives in Georgia from China

Tomorrow, at 10:30 am, train which left Chinese port Lianguang will enter Tbilisi for the first time, administration of Georgian Government reported.

“With entrance of the Chinese train “Silk Road Railway” will officially be open, Georgia’s pm Irakli Garibashvili together with Chinese ambassador and General director of Georgian Railways will welcome the train”. 

Train has passed through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and will enter Georgia to continue its final destination of Turkey.

This is the first transit cargo and implemented Silk Road project. In the near future the transit train will connect Asia to Europe in the shortest period of time. Cargo which will be transported from Chinese extreme western point will arrive in Istambul in maximum 14-15 days, ship usually takes 40-45 days.

At the end of the year, Tbilisi is due to welcome one more train, although from 2016 couple of thousand containers will be transported in the frames of mentioned project.

“The project will significantly increase country’s transit potential,” statement outlines.
