Peace is More than War – Demonstrators Expressed Solidarity to Victim of Occupation

People gathered at the Freedom square of Tbilisi on March 4, at 18:30 to express solidarity to Georgian man, Archil Tatunashvili killed in occupied region, Tskhinvali.

“The main aim of the demonstration is to express solidarity with one of the dead Georgians who was a victim of occupation. Another Georgian man has died by Russian violence in occupied territories. We will show the civilized world that Georgia in on the peace side, hile the separatist regime and Russia are still choosing the way of war, murders and violence, “the statement of organizers’ reads.

Demonstrators brought flowers and lit candles in memory of the 35-year-old, who died in the occupied region under unclear circumstances on February 23. However, the occupying force has not yet released his body.

Hundreds of organisations expressed solidarity with the family and condemned Russia’s occupation of Tskhinvali.

The Government of Georgia has demanded “clear and comprehensive information” over Tatunashvili’s death.

The United States, the European Union, many other countries and almost all international organisations have stated they are deeply concerned over the case and have urged Russia and the de-facto leadership to hand over the body and to not hinder a transparent investigation into the death.
