The airline Ryanair is not going to enter Georgia at this stage and one of the reasons is the high tariffs at Tbilisi Airport. Neil O’Connor, head of the company’s development direction, that participates in the aviation forum CONNECT 2018 told 1 TV journalists.
“The previous government made a mistake when the Tbilisi airport was transferred to a particular company and established high tariffs. Such tariffs are not even applied in Barcelona, when there are just up to 3 million passengers in Tbilisi, and out of 50 directions, only 10 of them are to Europe “O’Connor said.
The Irish airline representative said that the decision to launch flights is based on where the most competitive costs are.
“Now more airports want to grow than we have this opportunity. We need to be careful in our choices. We could not reach agreement with Kutaisi or Tbilisi at this stage. This door is always open. We will be happy to resume negotiations. We have important plans for growth in the coming years. There is no reason why we can not start flights in Kutaisi or Tbilisi. Tbilisi is a market, which needs development as flights are limited. Too many flights run through Istanbul. I don’t think the low-cost airport in 200-kilometer is a solution from expensive airport. Expenses in Tbilisi are very high, “said the airline representative.
