TbilVino Arranges New Vineyards
24 April, 2018

This year TbilVino company has arranged new vineyards on 37 hectare land in the village of Shashiani, Kakheti Region.

The vineyard comprises such varieties as Qissi, Saperavi and Kakhetian Green. At this stage, the company is arranging irrigation system. The company has invested more than 800 000 USD in the project implementation, Lasha Lomashvili, head of TbilVino products development direction, told BM.Ge.

The own vineyard enables to make top quality wines and prevent the company from financial risks as a result of changed grapes prices, he said.

‘We conduct monitoring in the vineyards of farmers, from whom we have been buying grapes for 20 years, but we cannot valuably control quality of grapes, as we do this in our own vineyards. When a company holds its own base of raw materials, it is able to better control quality of grapes. This is one of the key advantages. At the same time, we will not depend on changes in market prices. For example, in 2017 grapes price rose by about 100% compared to 2016, while we cannot raise wine prices in the same proportions, because this is unacceptable for wine markets and the company bears losses in the end and this factor makes negative influence on the company profits.

Our final objective is to pick basic varieties such as Rkatsiteli, Saperavi and others in our own vineyards. In 2017 we picked 15-20% of the totaled processed Saperavi in our own vineyards and this volume will increase year to year. We expect this figure to rise to 40%”, Lasha Lomashvili said.

In whole,TbilVino owns 202 hectare vineyards arranged in the best microzones of Mukuzani and Kindzmarauli.
