The Project Supported by the program Film in Georgia is nominated in the Main Competition of the Cannes Film Festival

In 2016 Enterprise Georgia introduced program “Film in Georgia” that is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia.

“Film in Georgia” offers 20-25% cash rebate on qualified expenses incurred in Georgia and aims to support the development of Georgia’s film industry, attract international filmmakers to the country and position Georgia as the main Eastern European Filming Destination.

Within the frames of the program “Film in Georgia”, Eva Husson with the assistance of 20 Steps Productions (a Georgian production company) shot Georgian-French co-production by the name “Girls of the Sun” that is nominated in the main competition of Cannes Film Festival.

Eva Husson’s feature film shootings began in late-September, lasted for five months, and were more than 860 individuals employed, including the locals for the mass scene shootings. The Film’s set takes place in Kurdistan and it tells the story of two women- Bahar, the head of the Kurdish battalion of women known as “Girls of the Sun” and Matilda, a French journalist covering current events in the region. In the main roles are starring such as  well-known french and iranian actors, including the winner of Cannes Film Festival Emanuelle Bercot and Golshifteh Farahani.

The program “Film in Georgia” has already attracted 12 productions, out of which 9 have been completed, but the shootings of 3 film are taking place now. The total Investment Volume of these productions has amounted to more than GEL 19.4 mln and 1900 local stuff employed.
