Ajarian Wines

In the western regions of Georgia, Ajara is one of the oldest centers of viticulture and enology. Keda district, situated in Acharistskali Gorge, is considered to be the historical center of winemaking in Ajara. The wines “Kedis Tsolikauri” and “Chkhaveri” produced in Keda district are very popular among Georgian as well as foreign consumers.
 

Tsolikauri

Tsolikauri is a white-grape species, widely presented in Keda district. It is a late ripening variety.The local and European types of table and naturally semi-sweet wines are made from it. Tsolikouri, as the oldest Georgian species, has different variations and clones.

 

Chkhaveri

Chkhaveri is a rose-grape species. It produces high quality wine material.  Bunch of Chkhaveri grape is cylinder-conical shaped. Fruits are dark red, thick skinned and juicy with sweet taste. Wine Chkhaveri is light straw –colored with rose sparkle and extremely delicate aroma.

In 2011, “Ajarian Wine House” was opened with the purpose of popularizing viticulture in the region (address: village Acharistskali, Khelvachauri Region, 20 km from Batumi).  The wine house offers its guests to try unique varieties of wines, including “Chkhaveri” that is bottled in a very limited number- around 7000 bottles per year.  Guests also have a chance to taste delicious Ajarain cuisine and relax in breathtaking nature of mountainous Ajara.
