The Kazakh budget airline FlyArystan has started regular flights from Almaty to western Georgia’s Kutaisi Airport, the United Airports of Georgia said on Monday.
The airports body said the company’s first flight had brought 175 passengers to the city, noting the addition meant Kazakh destinations were now “completely covered” from Kutaisi.
“The successful example of FLyArystan has shown that our region is a very interesting, strategically important and attractive destination for Kazakhstan”, UAG Director Irakli Karkashadze said.
Karkashadze also revealed the airline would expand the number of flights from Kutaisi Airport to 15 per week throughout the summer season.
Almaty flights will be carried out twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, with FlyArystan also operating connections between Kutaisi and cities of Astana, Atyrau, Aktau and Shymkent.
The airline served 135,000 passengers at Kutaisi Airport last year.
