The Times: “Europe’s most vibrant capital — which isn’t where you’d expect”
13 December, 2023

The Times, a London-based British daily newspaper, is promoting Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi as a city that has “gained a reputation as the ‘next Berlin’ among clued-in city trippers” in a new article.

In the travel piece, Chris Schalkx also describes Tbilisi’s Old Town district, churches, ethnographic and wine museums, wine bars, dry bridge market, catering establishments and hotels, giving the readers advice on exploring the capital.

But Tbilisi is more than a hipster honeypot: this former Silk Road-era trading hub has passed hands between Mongol khans, Persian shahs and Russian rulers, who each left their marks on the city’s kaleidoscopic architectural and cultural history”, the article says.

Schalkx also recommends exploring the downtown on foot and use public transportation for “hops between the various neighbourhoods”.

His article shares impressions of the city after his visit to Georgia as a part of a press tour organised by the country’s National Tourism Administration.
