The overhaul of the Botanical Garden in Zugdidi, which cost 12 million GEL, will be completed in June of 2019.
The project, implemented by the Municipal Development Fund and funded by World Bank, started this year. The infrastructure of the Zugdidi Botanical Garden had been damaged for decades and needed repair.
The project includes the rehabilitation of buildings and fences in the garden, water supply and irrigation updates, and sewage and drainage systems repairs. The water supply for the artificial lake on site will also be improved.
Walking paths and public toilets will be built. At this stage, construction on the house of the gardener, security kiosks and the cash box is under way.
Up to 120 people are employed on this project, and after completion of the project, up to 70 staff members will be employed using the renewed infrastructure. The local government hopes that the Zugdidi Botanical Garden will increase the number of tourists and visitors to the area, and other projects for the further development of tourism will be created.
