Tunnel construction begins in the Darial Gorge. A 2-km tunnel of international importance will be built  under the project.

The project budget is GEL 47 179 224 which is  funded from the state budget.

The government decided to carry out the project due to more frequent natural disasters  occurred  in the Dariali Gorge in recent years that hampered  movement and caused millions laris of  damage   daily as a result of termination of transit function.
