30 May, 2017

“The year of 2016 was a peak period, when a record inflow of foreign tourists was registered in Georgia”, Giorgi Chogovadze, head of tourism administration told Business Morning.

More than 6 million visitors arrived in Georgia in 2016. The previous year was a record one in terms of revenues too. Namely, total revenues exceeded 2 billion USD, Chogovadze said.

“The first four months have recorded much better indicators and we can definitely say this year we will improve our indicators. In 2016 we hosted 6 million tourists and we plan to improve this figure by 1 million visitors.

In 2016 the inflow of tourists increased by 450 000 new visitors, who stayed in the country for 24 hours and more. Our objective was to make our country popular on traditional markets to boost tourists inflow to the country, as well as to penetrate new markets, including Persian gulf countries, as well as India”, Giorgi Chogovadze noted.
