Tourism authorities of Georgia and Türkiye have held their first working meeting in Istanbul to deepen cooperation in the field of tourism, the ministry of economy of Georgia announced on Tuesday.
Participants of the meeting expressed readiness to increase the frequency of flights between the two countries and stressed the importance of bringing their public and private sectors "even closer together".
The sides agreed it is important to offer and develop common tourism products, share experience with each other, raise service levels and deepen cooperation in tourism with training and various events", the ministry said.
Georgia hosted 543,464 travellers from Türkiye in the first nine months of 2022, an 141 percent increase year-on-year but 40 percent less compared to the pre-pandemic figures of 2019, the official statistics published by the Georgian national tourism administration show.
Other data published by the national statistics office of Georgia shows that in the first quarter of 2022 a total of 261,400 Georgian resident travellers took a trip outside of the country, with most of these visits - 102,800 - being made to Türkiye.
