UNESCO Announces Kolkheti Perhumid Territories as the World’s Natural Heritage Zone
UNESCO has announced Kolkheti forests and over-saturated territories as the world’s natural heritage zone, Georgian Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reports.
“Agency of Protected Areas has been working jointly with WWF so as UNESCO announce Machakhela, Mtirala and Kolkheti National Parks, Kintrishi and Kobuleti protected territories as the world’s natural heritage zone.
The project is being implemented by Environment Ministry, Agency of Protected Areas and Caucasus Office of WWF since 2017 with the financial support of Environment Protection and Nuclear Safety Federal Ministry of Germany and WWF.
David Markozashvili, director of Agency of Protected Areas, stressed the project importance with interested bodies. The meeting was attended by representatives of local self-governments and nongovernmental organizations and independent experts”, the agency news release reads.
