14 December, 2022

Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air will add new routes from Georgia’s western Kutaisi International Airport to five European cities starting in June, the United Airports of Georgia announced on Tuesday.

Next summer the company will launch flights to Brussels, Madrid, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Poznań.

The direct flights between the Kutaisi Airport and the cities will be operated out twice a week. In addition, the airline is increasing flight frequency to Paris, Milan, Prague and Memmingen.

Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said Wizz Air's decision to add five more flights from the airport and again having a third jet based in the country was a "successful result of quite long negotiations".

The return of the third jet based in Kutaisi and the addition of five new European destinations will be extremely successful for the growth of our country and the tourism industry. Most importantly, it will increase our country's income from the tourism industry. In addition, it will strengthen small and medium enterprises operating in Georgia, first of all in Imereti [region] and then in the whole of Georgia", Kvrivishvili noted.

Wizz Air has been carrying passengers of the Georgian airline market since opening its first South Caucasus base in Kutaisi in 2016.
