In the middle of the flow of river Rioni is located the second largest city of Georgia, Kutaisi. It is settled on the both banks of the river, at 150-300 meters above the sea level. It has moist subtropical climate. In mid-January average temperature is +5.20C, in July - +23.20C, the volume of precipitation (1380 mm) is nearly 1,5 times more than evaporation.

Not far from the city are located Sataplia sanctuary territories, Ajameti conservation area, the Pole of Katskhi, Tsutskhvati Cave, Khvamli mountain range and other natural sightseeing locations.
