Cultivation of ancient Meskhetian vine begins in Samtskhe-Javakheti

As Georgia’s governmental administration has informed IPN, the process of cultivation of ancient Meskhetian vine begins at the territory of Khizabavra Meskhetian Terraces. 

Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, as well as founders of the terraces – Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, Vardzia terraces Director Giorgi Natenadze and Archbishop Teodore planted first saplings. 

As Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has declared this is a beginning of Samtskhe-Javakheti’s and Georgia’s overall progress. 

According to the PM it is very important that the ancient crafts such as engraving on stone have been resumed. 

17 rare species of Meskhetian vine will be planted on the terraces. The terraces will cover 23 hectare land in total.
