Georgian Wine of Dzelshavi Grape Variety to Enter US Market
31 May, 2017

Maradiuli, Georgian natural wine, will be exported to the USA eugeorgia.info reported.

Giorgi Kemertelidze started production of red wine of Dzelshavi grape variety 18 months ago. He makes wine in Kvevri.

“There are several pubs in Tbilisi, where natural and bio wines are sold. An exhibition was held in one of the pubs. Influential winemakers from all over the world have attended the exhibition. They tasted my wine and contacted me. I have received two offers, from the USA and Australia. I will send the first consignment in June.

The demand is quite impressive. However, we do not have enough reserves”, the entrepreneur said. At this stage Giorgi Kemertelidze produces 1000 bottles a year from 0.5 hectare vineyard, but he plans to expand business.

“We had an old vineyard and I decided to renovate it. I plan to plant new seedlings in a week. I will have the first vintage in three years. I have another vineyard of 1500 square meters. I also plan to take a vineyard in leasing and produce wine in this way.

Dzelshavi is an old grape variety coming from the fifth century. There are two varieties of Dzelshavi – in Sachkhere and Racha, Oni District. In the future, I plan to arrange Tsolikauri vineyard and in about 5 years I will be able to produce 5 000 bottles a year”, Giorgi Kemertelidze said.

Besides pubs and exports, the entrepreneur plans to sell wines in its own tasting cellar. Price of one bottle of Maradiuli wine ranges from 33-45 GEL, while in the US retail network the price will be 40 USD.
