23 October, 2023

Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Thursday said passenger flows in Georgian airports between January and September had exceeded pre-pandemic levels by nine percent, and credited “correct and consistent policy” of the Government with the recovery.

Data published by the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency showed Georgia’s three international airports served 4,529,466 passengers during the nine months, marking a 37 percent year-on-year increase.

The Agency said the figures marked the first time since the lifting of pandemic restrictions that the number of passengers at the Georgian airports exceeded the pre-pandemic figures of 2019.

Kvrivishvili emphasised the increase in traffic at the western Kutaisi International Airport, which connects passenger to 30 European countries with direct flights, by saying the number of passengers served by the Airport between January and September marked a 93 percent increase over 2019.

The Deputy Minister called the Kutaisi Airport traffic exceeding one million passengers for the first time this year “a matter of pride”.

Kutaisi International Airport served 1,216,372 passengers in January-September.
