Q2 2021 data: Georgian tourists made 1.41 mln visits inside the country

About 1.23 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years or more made 1. 41 million visits within Georgia per month in the second quarter of 2021, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). 

The number of visitors has increased twice in comparison to the corresponding data for the second quarter of the previous year", said Geostat.

In the same  quarter the monthly average number of tourists visits of Georgian residents amounted to 654,500, which is 112.3% higher than the indicator of the same period of the previous year. 

The majority of the visits comes on the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi (average 316,200  visits per month) and Imereti region (253,900 visits per month).

The top reasons for internal travel were:

  • Visiting friends/relatives – 47%
  • Visiting another property [summer cottage, house, etc.] – 17.5%
  • Shopping – 14.1%
  • Health and medical care – 7.8%
  • Holiday/leisure – 7%
  • Business or professional – 3.1%
  • Religion/pilgrimage – 1.6%
  • Education/trainings – 0.1%

People aged 31-50 were amongst the most avid domestic travellers (38.3%). 53.6% of visits were made by women, says Geostat.
