Territory of climatic spa resort of Makhindjauri hypsometrically is placed on 15-100 m altitude above sea level, between Kara-Dare and Green Cape. Local population started using sub-thermal mineral water flowing out here for therapy as early as beginning of XX century. First scientific studies of water were made in 1912. Bathhouses were built and Makhindjauri history as a resort commenced this time. From the North Makhindjauri is bordered by the most admirable place on the Black Sea coast of Adjara - Green Cape. Historically it was called ‘Sasire Keli’. Sobriquet ‘Green Cape’ was given by the Russian vacationers. They settled here in the second half of the XIX century
and built here summer houses. After establishment of the Soviet rule most of the cottage houses were turned into sanatoria. Since their majority was built on the mountain part of Green Cape, for the comfort of holiday-makers cableway from sanatoria to the beach was built.
Green Cape’s fine-stone beach and clean seawater which are the best not only for swimming and sun tanning but also for diving, is overlooked by Botanical Garden. Its area is 110 ha. Its vegetation is represented in 9 phyto-geographic divisions by the origin of plants. Besides, Garden comprises upper, lower and seaside parks, experimental and collection plots, green-houses and conservatories for tropical plants. Batumi Botanical Garden was founded by one of the summer residents there, French gardener and designer, Michel d’Alphonse who cultivated around his cottage the first stage of the picturesque Garden with diverse relief forms and then alien plants, to wit: oleanders, palms, cypresses, cedars, olive oil trees… Nowadays d’Alphonse’s cottage is part of Botanical Garden and is called ‘Lower Park”.

Diseases for treatment: respiratory system (except TB and bronchial asthma) diseases, cardiovascular, urinary and sexual (chronic prostatitis) and nervous system, gynecological diseases, iron-deficit anemia, pathologies caused by endocrine system and metabolism disorders.
