Sea Tourism

Sea tourism is one of the most popular types of tourism in Ajara. Subtropical climate, warm sea air, infrastructure of sea resorts, sea and mountain combination create favorable conditions for holidays. The total length of the swimming zone is 21 km. The average sea temperature is 21-290C.

The territory of Ajara comprises the following sea resort zones: Batumi, Kobuleti, Makhinjauri, Mtsvane Kontskhi (Green Cape), Chakvi, Gonio, Kvariati and Sarpi.

 

Seaside Resorts

Batumi

Heliotherapy and Thalassotherapy are the main characteristics of Batumi as a resort city. The sea water is distinguished by high mineralization here. It is always warm in Batumi. The temperature of the coldest month January in winter is +7-100C. The city saturated with the fragrance of the sun, sea, magnolias and acacias, is charming and attractive every season of the year.

 

 

Kobuleti

Mild and humid climate of the Black Sea accounts for exceptional medicinal features of Ajara region.  Kobuleti is distinguished by particular microclimate from other coastal climate resorts of Ajara.

Resort Kobuleti is an important tourist center along the Georgian Black Sea coast. Beaches are comfortable and well equipped with showers, beach umbrellas, chaise lounges and cafes, as well as with different water attractions.

 

Tsikhisdziri

The resort of Tsikhisdziri is located 17 km north of Batumi, 60-90 m above sea level. It is built on the Tsikhisdziri upland with steep slopes declined towards the sea thus creating a Tsikhisdziri Cape. The Cape intruded into the sea divides the beach into two parts. The attraction of its climate lies in the fact that it is a mixture of sea and mountain airs. Summers are rather cool here whereas winters are relatively warmer than in Batumi or Makhinjauri. 

 

Chakvi

Chakvi is located 13 km from Batumi. This resort place is a historical birthplace of Georgian tea. The Chinese scientist Lao Jun Jiao first introduced and cultivated tea exactly in Chakvi.

 

Mtsvane Kontskhi (Green Cape)

Mtsvane Kontskhi lies 9 km from Batumi on 70-92 m above the sea level and it is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Georgia. A popular Batumi Botanical Garden is located on picturesque slopes of Green Cape. The garden has become a favorite place for foreign guests, as well as for Batumi locals.

Makhinjauri

The seaside climatic-health resort Makhinjauri is located 5 km north from Batumi, 15-25 m above sea level rising up to 1000-1300 m. The climate is humid subtropical. Compared to Batumi, winters are warmer here and summers are cooler. Cool summer is preconditioned by upland location and changeable breezes. 

Gonio-Sarpi-Kvariati

These resort places are located 17-18 km from Batumi at the Georgian-Turkish border. The average sea water temperature here is 25 degrees. Hotels and guest houses are distinguished by closeness to the sea, combined sea and mountain air and cozy atmosphere.
